      Fundamentalism is built on five tenets of the Christian faith, although there is much more to the movement than adherence to these tenets: 1) The Bible is literally true. Associated with this tenet is the belief that the Bible is inerrant, that is, without error and free from all contradictions. 2) The virgin birth and deity of Christ. In this book, the following theological positions are held: covenant theology (contra di ensationalism), the fi ve points of Calvinism (contra Arminianism), the doctrine of common grace, the love of God, and the free Fundamentals of the Christian Faith Th eology Prope.

    It became active in the s after the release of The Fundamentals, a twelve-volume set of essays, apologetic and polemic, written by conservative Protestant theologians to defend what they saw as Protestant orthodoxy. The movement became more organized within U.S. Protestant churches in the s, especially with Baptists and Presbyterians. Christian fundamentalism, movement in American Protestantism that arose in the late 19th century in reaction to theological modernism, which aimed to revise traditional Christian beliefs to accommodate new developments in the natural and social sciences, especially the theory of biological keeping with traditional Christian doctrines concerning biblical interpretation, the mission.
